17th Century ring found in Middlewich declared treasure

A GOLD ring discovered by a metal detecting enthusiast in Middlewich has been declared treasure.
On Thursday, coroner Jean Harkin said the British Museum believe the artifact – found by Michael Farrington, o Middlewich, on November 1, 2010 – dates back to the 17th Century.
The gold ‘mourning’ ring, which is decorated with black enamel and a floral design, features the inscription ‘death is the waye to life’ (sic).
Experts at the museum say its makers’ mark ‘TS’ matched two rings in the museum dated 1658 and 1669.
